What A Strange Red Devil Stomp

For some reason I'm feeling a little bit country today.... I have a small collection of some killer tunes that all have a bit of a country edge to them. They all totally rock (what do you expect with bands such as Led Zeppelin, Alice In Chains and Tool?), so buckle on your spurs and giddy up!!

For me, it has never been a challenge to answer the question: "Who is the world's greatest band?." I am not one hundred percent positive, but I think this just may be the first decent Tool mashup. Even better though is that this is much more than just decent! Until now we've had to settle for Puscifer or LustMord remixes for something approximating a Mashup fix with a MJK flavor to it (not that "settling" for either is actually a bad thing). Not anymore!

Fountains of Passion Along the Watchtower

Today is now Triple Tuesday. I am craving some Parabol(a). It is one of my all-time favourite songs. I find the lyrics to be amongst the most profound ever found in a rock & roll song. Today there is no audio mashup. It's pure video today.

I know I already posted a video mashup combining the Fountain with Parabol. Today is a much better version, since it uses both Parabol and Parabola. Mashed with the Fountain they make an impressive, moving and beautiful mash. Perhaps less moving if you haven't seen the movie but I wouldn't know.

I highly recommend checking out the lyrics - songs 6 & 7

*edit* unfortunately this brilliant video has been pulled for copyright violations. A not-quite-as-good-but-still-awesome version can be found here (unfortunately it has embedding disabled):

I have this instead as a substitute for the Fountain video, the original songs with accompanying lyrics.

**edit (again)** I think I found it again!

I love those songs so much I have to hear them again, this time mashed to the Passion. Just goes to show I'm not the only one who finds profound meaning in these songs

This last mash is a cover of Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower". I have no clue who does it, although it sort of sounds like Tom Cochrane. It is mashed with the Watchmen, another of my favorites.

*bonus edit*
I just had to add this amazing little explanatory video set to another Tool Classic, "Forty Six and Two" as it pertains to Jungian Analysis. Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant!!

A Perfect Tool

One of my reasons for doing this blog is to build myself a decent playlist of kick-ass tunes. Which means I need to include "the World's Greatest Band", Tool. Unfortunately, the pickings are slim when it comes to Tool mashups (hard to improve on perfection).

The best I could find so far was this mashup: Lil Flip vs A Perfect Circle. I have no idea who Lil Flip is or what their song is called. The APC song is their cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". It's not Tool, but the next best thing.

I can still sneak in a couple Tool songs with a little stretch. For the most part, the kind mashups I am looking for are new songs that are the result of combining two or more other songs. A mashup is something made (usually by fans or users) combining different pieces of other things (whether vocals, music or api's in the case of apps). While there may not be many (easily found) Tool mixes available, there are some truly awesome (and beautiful) fan videos. Which is sort of a mashup.

First is this one which features artwork by H. R. Gieger - who is obviously a huge inspiration to the band - set to their amazing cover of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter"

Next, here is one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen. It uses footage (mostly from the ending) from the incredible Hugh Jackman film "The Fountain". It is set to "Parabol". It would have been even better if it continued into "Parabola", but we can't have it all...
